If you are anything like me, you are someone that goes with the flow. Just like a leaf that falls in the creek, I go where the water takes me. Easy going right? Not really, I didn't believe I had a choice. I was waiting for someone to rescue me from the Hell in which was my life. But for a long time, I was in denial… I thought everyone and everything was to blame. My family, my SO, my friends, people in general, I also thought it was the my unhealthy behaviors. I felt like I was the victim, someone did me an injustice and life just isn't fair.
But through my journey, I have come to realize that life is what you make of it and no one is coming to rescue you. So, at some point I realized that I needed to be my own superhero… Who me? Really? I am more of a villain, so I thought. I ignored the fact that I was truly a hero at heart and I wanted to be the best I could be, so I dreamed of being a superhero… I was taught you get what you put in and people get what they deserve.
I never believed it in my heart that some people deserve the bad things that happen. I wouldn't wish on my worst enemy. So I always twisted this thought to, you get what you put in and people get what is meant for them, only the universe or God knows why. Yeah I said it God. It's not a bad word. I do have faith in something bigger than myself, the universe, mother nature, God, Satan & Angels.
In my childhood and throughout my adult life, I have dabbled in many religions but I don't have a particular one that I favor. Just like in life I take something good out of everything, I try to look on the bright side of things. I have accumulated so much knowledge and instead of following one religion faithfully, I have respect for all religions but these were crafted so long ago, and we live in a different world now. So, I came up with my beliefs… This is a combination of religions and quotes from the great minds of the world.
Sure, I have rules that I live by like:
Let it go
ignore them
give it time
don't compare
stay calm
It's on you, smile!
I like to keep it simple but what I was missing was rules for a happy life:
If you don't go after what you want, you will never have it.
If you do not ask, the answer will always be No.
If you do not step forward, you will always be in the same place.
Rules, I hate rules and I just want to break them, lol I was resistant and did not want to conform… But I came across rules for a kickass life:
Know your only competition is who you were yesterday
Earn, save and invest before you spend
Avoid negative people, life is too short
See failure as a beginning not an end
our habits decide our future
OK at this point I'm on board with rules, crazy huh?
Than I found more rules that I could live by like:
Stand up straight
Treat yourself like someone you are responsible for helping
make friends with people who want the best for you
Set your house in perfect order before you criticize the world
Pursue what is meaningful
Tell the truth or at least don't lie
Assume that the person you are listening to might know something that you don't
Be yourself, what others think of you is none of your business
stop over thinking, the answers will come to you when you least expect it
I used to cringe at rules, that was my problem, I didn't embrace them and make them my own. You are the one that makes up the rules for your life, you have a choice and you are not just a leaf floating in the creek waiting for someone to save you, you are a leaf in the creek on a journey to your final destination.
TAKE YOUR LIFE BACK!
Improve your own game instead of playing others.
Focus on a higher purpose, not instant gratification.
Find and live your personal truth. Learn to be a good listener.
Define your problems precisely to make it manageable.
Accept that inequality exists.
And Always, always remember to take time to appreciate the good things in life.
Rules, rules, rules. No one wants to hear about rules, I am almost done I promise… These are the rules that changed my life…
Tagged as Rules of a Scientist's life.
Never stop learning.
Assume nothing, question everything.
Teach others what you know.
Analyze objectively.
Practice humility.
Respect constructive criticism.
Give credit where it's due.
Take initiative.
Ask the tough questions early.
Love what you do or leave.
Then I found rules of a creator's life:
Do more than what you are told to do.
Try new things.
Make work into play.
Take breaks.
Work when others are resting.
Always be creating.
Make your own inspiration.
Rules are not so bad are they? Doesn't everyone know the Golden Rules for living:
If you open it, close it.
If you turn it on, turn it off.
If you unlock it, lock it up.
If you break it, admit it.
If you can't fix it, call in someone you can.
If you borrow it, return it.
If you value it, take care of it.
If you make a mess, clean it up.
If you move it, put it back.
If it belongs to someone else, get permission to use it.
If you don't know how to operate it, leave it alone.
